At Atlas, we think it is very important to emphasize healthy living.

Our elementary children benefit from two recesses a day. Our middle school children enjoy one recess a day (as opposed to no recess in most middle schools) and an optional after-school recess.

All children are asked to bring in a healthy lunch. No candy is given to children during the school day and there are no soda machines on site.

In an effort to encourage our students to eat well, we do not allow the following at Atlas School.

  • trans fats
  • corn syrup
  • high fructose corn syrup
  • granulated sugar
  • artificial sweeteners
  • deep-fat fried foods
  • pre-packaged meals
  • fast foods

As a result, our students eat a lot of healthy, homemade foods and they are not tempted by their peers eating junk food. On the contrary, don't be surprised if your child comes home asking you to buy certain fruits and vegetables because they saw their peers enjoying them so much!
