Rachel Saar

Rachel SaarKindergarten Teacher

A graduate of Meredith College, Mrs. Saar holds licensure in Elementary Education, Reading, and English as a Second Language and has over six years of experience as an elementary teacher in Wake County. Her nurturing and supportive manner makes her the perfect candidate to teach young children.

Mrs. Saar enjoys working at Atlas while her daughter Ruby attends the Atlas Spanish preschool. The Saar family looks forward to welcoming their second child in the spring.

 

Marketa SmithFirst-Grade Teacher

Mrs. Smith has a B.A. in Education and more than eleven years of teaching experience in elementary schools. Her experience in Wake County includes teaching at a charter school using the Core Knowledge curriculum, as well as at a School of Excellence.

Mrs. Smith has a sincere love of learning and cares deeply for her students. As an educator, her goal is to impact and inspire. One of Mrs. Smith's college professors wrote of her: "Marketa is the best student I have taught in my 33 years of teaching." Mrs. Smith has a son in the Atlas middle school program.

Marti Duelks

Marti DuelksSecond Grade Teacher

Mrs. Duelks graduated from Georgia Southern University with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and is certified to teach pre-K through fifth grade. After teaching for twelve years in the public and private sectors, Mrs. Duelks decided to be a dedicated stay-at-home mom to her three children. She continued to stay connected to teaching as a private tutor during her stay-at-home years, and she decided to return to teaching once her youngest started preschool.

Her passion for teaching is evident in the relaxed yet challenging environment she creates in her classroom. Her free time is spent keeping up with the busy schedules of her children and enjoying family time on the weekends.

Ann LallyThird-Grade Teacher

Mrs. Lally graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. She later earned a certification in reading (grades K-6) and a certification in history (grades 4-8). After working many years as a classroom teacher at all elementary and middle school levels, Ann took on the challenge of homeschooling her own children from pre-K through tenth grade.

Her sixteen plus years of successful experience has made her one of the "go-to" homeschooling experts in the area and a fabulous resource for our school community.

Maggie Strickland

Maggie StricklandFourth Grade Teacher

Mrs. Strickland holds a Bachelor's degree in English from Meredith College and a Master's in English from the College of Charleston/The Citadel, where she worked as an adjunct instructor. She has also held positions in the College of Charleston English Department and The Citadel Academic Support Center. Upon returning to the Triangle, Mrs. Strickland worked at the Oxford Learning Center as an enrichment and support teacher across the curriculum with all grade levels.

Mrs. Strickland joined the Atlas team as an assistant in the second- and third-grade classrooms and later moved into the role of lead teacher. Her calm and gentle demeanor promotes a cooperative and harmonious learning environment for all. She and her husband stay busy with family and friends on the weekends.

Morgan CotterFifth-Grade Teacher

Mrs. Cotter, her husband, and their three children relocated to the Triangle from the NY/CT area. She has a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in English from Bowdoin College and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Mrs. Cotter brings over 12 years of experience at various grade levels to the classroom and enjoys creating dynamic learning experiences for her students.

Former administrators recommended her by saying, "The teaching profession fits Morgan as perfectly as Cinderella's glass slipper. Her masterful delivery of lessons is strongly connected to a warm and loving touch. She is one of those teachers that students will remember, parents will admire, and colleagues will respect."

Leah Rechetnikova

Leah RechetnikovaMiddle School Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher

Mrs. Rechetnikova is a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher originally from Ohio where she earned her B.A. in Political Science from Xavier University and a Master's of Education from the University of Toledo. While attending UT, she consistently earned distinguished ratings from fieldwork supervisors and a lucrative academic scholarship based on her performance and demonstrated passion for education.

Prior to teaching at Atlas, Mrs. R. worked as a full-time tutor for Durham Public Schools where she provided literacy and mathematics enrichment to English language learners and special education students across various grade levels.

Since she joined the Atlas team, several of her imaginative lesson plans have been selected for publication in national teaching journals. Her son is in the Atlas elementary program, and her husband and she spend weekend hours cheering for their son on the basketball court.

Carol GiamarioMiddle School Mathematics & Science Teacher

Mrs. Giamario (Mrs. G.) moved to the area from New York. She has a degree in Education from Adelphi University in NY and a Master's in Biology with a minor in Biotechnology from North Carolina State University—go Wolfpack! She has worked in the Wake County Public School System as a lead teacher and at the highly regarded Quest Academy as a middle school math and science teacher.

Mrs. G. also has many years of private sector experience in the biotech industry. Her combination of classroom and laboratory experience allows her to bring science to life through real-world applications and projects.

The teachers who comprise our Spanish immersion team are sweet, gentle and absolutely love children. They work under the guidance of Mrs. Howdeshell teaching the preschoolers through immersion, using songs, finger plays, art, and centers.

For beginning Spanish students at the elementary and middle school level, learning includes fun, hands-on, out-of-seat games, songs, and art projects.

Advanced learners focus on grammar, translation, and vocabulary building through entertaining, hands-on activities.
